wastewater "d" operator

The wastewater "d" operator is responsible for making sure the plant is in safe working conditions at all times. This role will keep records of all testing conducted and inform the correct individuals when any issues arise.

essential duties and responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
  • Operates to the best possible standards providing uninterrupted operation.
  • Monitors wastewater pretreatment systems, ancillary equipment and the chemical composition of the influent, effluent and internal process streams; makes necessary adjustments to ensure operation is within established guidelines.
  • Responds to unscheduled equipment or process failures.
  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs in accordance with manufacturer’s specifications on all systems including belt press, blowers, pumps, valves and piping.
  • Collects and analyzes raw waste, performs chemical and physical analysis. Maintains a thorough knowledge of the composition of the influent, effluent and internal process streams. Preforms sampling requirements for storm water.
  • Maintains cleanliness of wastewater plant.
  • Ensures efficient and economical operation of wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Completes maintenance records; maintains operating logbooks and databases as required.
  • Maintains control of plant tools, manuals, repair parts, assemblies and consumables.
  • Advises the HR Manager of the status of wastewater pretreatment equipment and systems.
  • Works a 2nd shift or rotating shift when required.
  • Performs duties in support of other Environmental programs.
  • Complies with all Health & Safety requirements and goals.
  • Performs other duties as required.

qualifications and requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • South Carolina class “D” certification required.
  • Experience working in a physical/chemical/wastewater pretreatment plant required.
  • General computer skills with ability to respond to company emails in a timely manner.

desired skills:

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Must be willing and able to lift/move items, parts, assemblies and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
  • Ability to communicate effectively between employees to plant management.
  • High attention to detail and escalate errors to management when needed.

physical requirements:

  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time.
  • Possess the ability to twist and bend frequently.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
