The steel foundry engineer is responsible for all aspects of foundry technology development and process improvement.
A successful applicant will be a self-driven engineer who takes on problems as opportunities, leverages their own talents, and communicates with the team to drive everyday improvement from the floor up. Applicants with experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment are preferred. Priority will be given to candidates who have the capacity to be promoted into successive engineering or leadership roles.
key duties and responsibilities:
Champion lean manufacturing principles within the department
Spearhead process and equipment troubleshooting with technicians in the department
Lead continuous improvement initiatives throughout the foundry value streams
Identify opportunities for improvements in capital equipment and develop business cases for purchase/integration.
Lead process and machine optimization/standardization
Lead root cause analysis and corrective action implementation
Develop and maintain process control methods for investment casting, sand casting and melting departments
Create and maintain Standard Work documents
Review and improve both existing and new tooling, gating and risers using solidification modeling results
Lead project teams in reduction of defects and downtime events.
Provide engineering support for predictive and preventative maintenance activities.
5+ years’ experience in foundry engineering in an investment casting setting
Bachelor of Science in Engineering (foundry, materials, mechanical, industrial or equivalent)
Knowledge of ferrous induction melting
Metallurgical experience in corrosion resistant alloys preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with casting simulation is preferred.
Hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
Personal computer skills are required. Extensive experience with word processing and spreadsheet development is a must.
