quality engineer

The Quality Engineer is responsible for enhancing and improving plant processes, products, and services through the implementation of problem-solving tools, prevention methods, quality-at-the-source, and continual improvement techniques. Provide technical support to manufacturing, procurement, engineering, supplier quality and quality management to minimize costs and maximize customer satisfaction.

duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support for product development with respect to cost effective, reliable process controls, design qualification, inspection procedures / methods, and quality plans for new products to assure error free launch.
  • Lead failure mode analysis and determination of appropriate corrective actions; recording and communicating reject information at an engineering level through established channels. Train personnel to corrective action process.
  • Implement counter measures to reduce and prevent internal quality problems and customer complaints and implement controls to prevent spills (nonconforming escapes).
  • Quality representative to manage new product validation. 
  • Support and lead quality functions for new program/product launches to ensure customer and Aalberts IPS requirements are implemented.
  • Document process, program, product, and/or materials lessons learned and review and qualify products, materials, components and supplier quality system performance capability.
  • Support supplier quality assurance process. Interacts with suppliers and customers on quality issues. 
  • Inspect, test, and measure products, components and materials using analytical equipment and gages. 
  • Develop procedures to standardize the methods of inspection.
  • Record, compile and report inspection, measurement, and test data in technical reports and charts format. 
  • Implements performance monitoring, measurement and control methods records as necessary to effectively evaluate performance and trends. 
  • Perform/lead system, process, and product audits to continually improve internal quality and production. 
  • Provide training to internal departments on quality procedures, techniques, principles and practices. 
  • Lead and participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Review Testing for new product/process development and in-process testing. 
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by manager or leadership in support of quality and production management as defined by the employee’s manager.

qualificaions and requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university (preferably in quality, engineering, business or science discipline).
  • 3 years of quality experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills.
  • Advanced problem-solving aptitude.
  • GD&T, Metrology experience and the ability to read blueprints, use gages and calipers. 
  • Working knowledge of ISO9001 and ISO 17025 quality system requirements.
  • Working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and control plans.
  • Strong problem-solving skills in Lean Six Sigma tools, DMAIC, root cause analysis.
  • Excellent computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, and Visio); mini tab. 
  • Ability to work in a team environment, lead teams and participate on continuous improvement teams.
  • Strong organizational skills, time management, multitask and action oriented.
  • Self-directed requiring minimal supervision; urgency, and attention to detail is a must.
  • Experience as ISO/TS internal auditor (or) performing system, process, and product audits a plus.

desired skills:

  • American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) certification.
  • 5 years of quality experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of metals preferred. 
  • Experience performing gage R&R and MSA studies a plus.
  • Working knowledge of SPC.
  • Technical writing and flow-charting experience.
