The machinist is responsible for the use of precision measuring tools and equipment to ensure the accuracy of machined components.

essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring tools and equipment to ensure the accuracy of machined components.
  • Knowledge of common metals used in the machine tool industry.
  • Ability to select the appropriate tools, machines, materials, speed and feeds required to complete the machining of assigned component parts.
  • Machine parts to the required specifications and drawings using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders.
  • Communicate with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
  • Responsible for keeping equipment and work area clean and orderly and perform basic preventative maintenance functions on equipment.
  • Detecting equipment malfunctions or out of tolerance machining and adjust machine within capabilities controls or control media as required insuring quality of production.

qualifications/requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have at least 2 years’ experience as a Machinist.
  • Must be able to do own setups in both manual and/or CNC machines.
  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.
  • Knowledge of feeds and speeds for metalworking.
  • Great math skills are a must.
  • Must know tooling and fixture and have experience in holding tolerances.
  • Write complete programs to print specifications from scratch for both G&M code and Conversational (Mazatrol).
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Must know design techniques, tools and principals involved in production planning, blueprints, drawings and models.
  • Ability to identify causes of operating errors and deciding what to do through troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of the use of various types of measuring instruments used in a machine shop environment to create quality parts.
