foundry operations manager

The Foundry Operations Manager is responsible for the management of all departments in two shifts in the foundry and takes ownership and responsibility for the Brass Foundry. He or she is directly responsible for management, vision, direction and support to foundry staff in meeting safety, quality, productivity, delivery and other objectives. Ensure foundry personnel have the tools, training and environment they need to work safely and efficiently to produce high quality material. Provide direction, including the oversight of all Department Supervisors; which includes safety, attendance, and achieving goals for production. Develop staff for growth into future opportunities and oversee adherence to department budgets, including but not limited to, purchasing supplies, materials, and replacement parts while setting standards to ensure implementation and adherence to all health and safety procedures. From concept through execution, the Brass Found Manager is responsible for keeping objectives consistent across various initiatives.

essential duties and responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for the actions of the molding, melt deck, core, grinding, pattern shop and automated hot stamping department supervisors.
  • Responsible for the safety of the supervisors and the employees.
  • Reviewing safety policies, attendance and production reports for each department of both shifts.
  • If goals are not being met; he or she is responsible for investigating the methods being utilized with other department supervisors and finding modifications for implementation to resolve any issues.
  • Maintaining manufacturing materials of sufficient quality necessary for satisfactory casting and forgings.
  • Approving requests for purchasing supplies, materials and replacement parts.
  • Responsible for any foundry personnel change requests, promotions and pay increases.
  • Acting liaison between Production and Engineering by recommending new tooling layouts that results in a cost efficient operation.
  • Responsible for controlling the brass foundry yearly budget, (gross margin) and managing PT&S and R&M spending.

qualifications and requirements:

  • Extensive technical experience in green sand foundry systems, bronze casting a plus but not required. 
  • Advanced communication skills.
  • Continue learning new technology and techniques to reduce redundancy and recommend new cost saving ideas when possible.
  • Strong knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
  • Able to function in a leadership role and interact positively and openly with employees, supervisors and other departments.
  • Able to work constructively in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Solid expertise in developing creative solutions in a fast-paced setting.In-depth knowledge of all steps required in the development process. This includes effectively and efficiently, providing clear communication and direction, giving timely and helpful feedback to improve solutions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with department supervisors.
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines within a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with casting simulation (MagmaSoft).
