director, environmental, health & safety

As the EH&S Director, you will set the strategy for Aalberts IPSA’s most critical component: the safety of its workforce. This role will partner with leadership to ensure consistent and proven safety measures are in place at each of our facilities and that we are compliant with our governing agencies and regulations. You will also drive the environmental strategy forward to ensure corporate sustainable development.

  • Support operations leadership in identifying priorities, objectives, and targets to align all company facilities with corporate strategies and in developing a strong safety culture.
  • Develop, deploy, and monitor all EHS programs, procedures, policies, and standards complying with jurisdictional and company EHS requirements.
  • Manage internal governing safety oversight committee: set mission and charter, identify improvements, and set continuous improvement targets.
  • Mentor and coach dotted-line report and facility leadership teams to improve the technical, leadership, and communication skills in safety and environmental areas.
  • Using tools and dashboards, develop and support actionable reports for internal tracking and government reporting requirements.
  • Publish safety and health metrics and communicate to all levels of the organization.
  • Oversee recordkeeping and environmental data collection.
  • Manage environmental remediation or other environmental clean-up projects.
  • Partner with human resources to optimally manage injury/illnesses cases, manage effective restricted work programs, and safely return employees to work, consistent with necessary restrictions.
  • Manage regulatory agency inspections and interactions.
  • Review and investigate accidents and incidents to determine root causes, develop and implement corrective actions. 
  • Ensure all jurisdictionally required compliance reporting is maintained for all sites.
  • Develop training aids and other forms of documentation.

qualifications and requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Safety and Health, Safety Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Environmental Sciences required.
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience managing environmental health and safety multi-site leadership; at least 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO/RC 14001 and 45000 principles and certifications.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State and local regulations and standards governing hazardous waste, permitting, clean air and wastewater.
  • Preferred environmental consulting experience, with a focus on investigation and remediation of soil and groundwater contamination.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading safety cultural change across an organization and in leveraging multiple approaches to help people adopt and implement sustainable change.
  • Demonstrated ability in leading continuous improvement activities and programs, and in implementing processes, tools, and best practices.
  • Proven leadership skills in working collaboratively with teams and influencing those beyond a formal reporting relationship.
  • Excellent communication skills and styles, both written and verbal; demonstrated ability to effectively present information to internal and external partners.
  • Experience with governmental agencies, compliance, and regulations (e.g., US EPA, DOT, OSHA, RCRA).
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or similar designation preferred.
  • Develop and perform JSA
  • Hands on leadership, walk the talk, available and willing to stablish a EHS system.
  • EHS audits and Gemba walks and new equipment EHS assessment.
  • Develop managers safety skills using: safety first, risk assessment, PFMA, safety EHS related professional certifications such as Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Associated Safety Professional (ASP) talks, etc.
  • Periodically review EHS vision and strategies and make recommendations to achieve company targets and key performance indicators.
