cnc machinist (2nd or 3rd shift)

The cnc machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines to produce precision parts and components according to technical specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of blueprints, programming, tooling, and quality control to ensure accurate and efficient production.

essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Strong problem solving skills.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and geometry.
  • Proficient in the use of precision measuring tools and equipment to ensure the accuracy of machined components.
  • Knowledge of common metals used in the machine tool industry.
  • Knowledge of cutting tools used for metal removal such as drills, reamers, taps, end mills and face mills.
  • Ability to select the appropriate tools, machines, materials, speed and feeds required to complete the machining of assigned component parts.
  • Machine parts to the required specifications and drawings using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, and grinders.
  • Ability to work independently by utilizing drawings and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations required.
  • Communicate with engineering, supervisory, or manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
  • Design fixtures, tooling, or experimental parts to meet special engineering needs.
  • Review drawings and instructions to understand specifications of needed output.
  • Other duties as assigned.

qualifications and requirements:

  • Must have your own metalworking tools and inspection instruments.
  • Experience in using and/or programming manual, semi-automated or automated tools and machines (lathes, mills, grinders etc.)
  • Follow facility rules and safety requirements.
  • Physical requirements include frequent reaching above shoulders, pushing and pulling. Continuous standing and occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to hold tight tolerances and take direction from tool room supervisor.

desired skills:

  • Completion of Machine Tool Technology Degree preferred.
  • Ability to program and edit CNC programs preferred.
  • Ability to read blueprints, schematics and manuals.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of vocational training or an apprenticeship preferred.
